France, Italy, Germany, Australia, South Africa and the U.S. are just a few countries that produce white wine. The absence of the seeds and skins of the grape allow for a color from the grape juice that explains the name of the wine itself. Allowed to ferment for three days to three weeks, the process of creating white wines is traditionally the same no matter where you go. The variety of grapes used and the climates from which they are grown has given way to a great number of choices in white wine flavor that can be paired with almost any food. While "wine country" exists for Americans on the beautiful California coast in both Napa and Sonoma valley, white wine can be experienced by wine connoisseurs and inexperienced wine tasters all over the world.
There is no single great white wine. Each has its own award winners and some awards are given based on the kind of wine and the cost per bottle. While there are so many varieties of white wines available, it may be easier to understand the most popular. The most famous comes from the chardonnay grape in France, though vineyards for this grape exist in New Zealand and California. It is the number one selling white wine in America and tends to be on the dry side. It is not a very expensive bottle of wine, usually selling for around ten dollars a bottle. Production of this wine is high due to the ability of the grapes to adapt to different climates.
Citrus flavors, fruity flavors and rustic ones can be found in different white wines. The colors of each can vary as well. Some look almost as clear as water while others, like Pinot Grigio, have a darker, yet pale golden color to it. Other differences in white wine deal with the aging process. Some need to age in order for a person to fully enjoy its flavor, while others taste best right after the bottling process is complete. Because white wine is less robust than red wine, lighter food pairings are better suited. This includes salads, appetizers, seafood and poultry.
For some, white wine is more than a delightful addition to a meal; it is a way of life. It is these kinds of people that wine clubs all over the world cater to. Through these clubs you can order wines from practically anywhere in the world. Through wine clubs, you can decide which vineyard to visit, how to make your own homemade wine and learn how to discern which food is best with which wine. Some people use wine clubs to meet other wine lovers and tour together. White wines can be a classic touch to gift baskets and can help you unwind after a long week. With so many flavors to choose from, why not head out and do some tasting of your own?

Today's Tip On Wine Tour
Wine and food have gone together for as long as both have been a part of the meal. Some wine experts claim that certain foods simply taste better when served with the right wine. Other experts claim that wine and food should be partnered according to what the individual diner believes has the best flavor. The one point that both sides seem to agree on, however, is sweet wine. Formally known as dessert wines, they are served after the meal, either alone or with a dessert. Truly appreciating them begins with being able to recognize them. |
